Simson

Yacht-building

The construction of pleasure yachts is undergoing rapid development. Increasingly strict safety requirements and the emergence of new construction materials place high demands on the knowledge and expertise of yacht builders. To ensure the very best end result and compliance with the strictest requirements and standards, Simson has developed a comprehensive solution: the MSR product range.

The products in Simsons Marine Special Range (MSR) stand for guaranteed top quality. Even more importantly, Simsons experienced nautical specialists provide proactive support. Based on the unequalled wealth of experience gained by the Bostik group, Simson solves specific problems in the yacht-building industry. This applies not only to bonding and sealing, but also to all safety requirements in this sector.

Simson offers yacht builders a complete range of products:
- MSR elastic adhesives and sealants
- Fire‑retardant products
- Interior adhesives and sealants

More information on Simsons range of products for the marine sector can be found here.

Certification
Manufacturers of high‑performance products in high‑performance applications must be able to rely on the quality provided by their suppliers.

Simson knows that quality is an absolute prerequisite in the yacht‑building industry. That is why Simson strives to obtain independent, objective certification in accordance with international standards for virtually all its products. To a large extent, the product range for the maritime sector has been certified by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Certified products can be recognised by the familiar CE logo (a steering wheel). This logo is proof that the product meets the requirements of IMO flammability tests. The IMO has described the fire‑resistant properties of Simson products as excellent. To ensure that quality standards are met, an independent research institute monitors the production process.

MSR elastic adhesives and sealants
Simsons MSR product range consists of a complete line of adhesives and sealants for the yacht-building industry. Yacht builders use these products for construction joints, but also for bonding and sealing bulkheads, fittings, trims, portholes, etc. A separate adhesive system has been developed especially for teak decks; click here for more information on this product.

The Simson MSR range is based on Silyl Modified Polymer (SMP), an advanced technology that has more than earned its place in the maritime sector. SMP‑based construction adhesives contribute to the rigidity of the construction, absorb differences in the expansion of materials without any problems, and ensure water‑tight sealing. In addition, these products have shock‑absorbing and insulating properties.

Simson elastic adhesives ensure an even stress distribution in materials. The bond absorbs opposite forces and movements and is deformation‑resistant. The use of elastic adhesives makes it possible to build lighter constructions. The absence of fastening materials increases the aesthetic value of the bond.

Products in Simsons SMP‑based MSR range have the following properties:
- Very user‑friendly
- Efficient in use
- Long shelf‑life
- Durable
- Resistant to weather and UV influences
- Resistant to fresh and salt water
- Odourless
- Can be sanded and painted over
- Not susceptible to blistering
- Available in different packages and colours

Fire‑retardant products
Vessels are subject to increasingly stringent safety requirements. Standards have also been tightened up in the area of fire safety. An increasing number of vessels now fall under the obligation to install additional facilities to prevent fire or limit its spread when it does break out. To help yacht builders meet these requirements, Simson offers a range of fire‑resistant acrylate‑ and silicone‑based sealants.
